The difference between recognition and identification
Recognizing a sound does not need to name it specifically but just to estimate if it has already been heard. For instance to recognize the sound of a ringing phone or a Beatles song.
The identification requests to label exactly the sound heard, for instance the ringing of my phone or the song I Want You from the Beatles.
The identification of a sound is specific to a unique event while the recognition refers to a class of events. Orelia develops a sound recognition technology.
